Trip #1 April 21-24, Yampa River - DeerLodge to Split Mountain
What an introduction to work as a River Ranger for the NPS. After rafting the Ditch last year, I thought that spending time on the Yampa couldn't be as beautiful as the Canyon was. But I was wrong. The river was low, the wind high, and needing to do back-to-back 25+ mile days was a challenge. But when I could look around me and see the landscape that I was a part of....words don't do it justice. I know that, given the water levels, this yampa season will be short. But I'm glad that I had a chance to get out on it before all the water is gone and it's kayaks and canoes only for the rest of the year.
